Book Review: Office Grump by Nicole Snow

***ARC provided in exchange for an honest review***

Pages: 425

Characters: Sabrina Bristol, Magnus Heron

Trope(s): Enemies-to-lovers, Office Romance,

Blurb:

Wall Street Journal bestselling author Nicole Snow returns with a fierce and hilarious office romance where two sworn enemies make undeniable lovers.

My “interview” with bosshole supreme was anything but normal.
He picked the worst day ever to chase me off my favorite park bench.
I retaliated with a spray of cinnamon latte all over his Italian shoes.
Then—for some unholy reason—Magnus Heron offered me a job.

Even his name sounds like a piece of work.
Guess what? He is.
But when you’re single, broke, and barely surviving in Chicago, you hop on the gift horse offering a six-figure salary and ride.
I picked the stallion on a one-way trip to hell.

It’s not the impossibly long hours working under Grump-zilla.
It’s not the fact that he’s snarly, demanding, horribly rich, and chiseled.
It’s not even the pesky way he makes me blush every flipping time we’re together.
Mag is my boss. I’m his lowly assistant. Some rules are carved in stone.

That’s my mantra until we’re sharing a sunset too beautiful for life.
Alone with wandering lips, whispered secrets, and disaster in the making.
The plan was simple: punch the clock, get paid, and keep hating my boss.
What’s the blueprint when the office grump brings me to my knees?

Full-length enemies-to-lovers romance with the banter, intrigue, and slow-burn love worthy of a Happily Ever After. The bossman from Hades meets the hellion he totally can’t stand—until he can’t live without her.

Raging grumpasaurus in a suit

OFFICE GRUMP BY NICOLE SMITH, LOCATION 563

Oh Wow! This is a full-length novel which was a funny, sexy read with plenty of drama.

Brina was a fiery, sassy character who would not take sh*t from her boss. (Boy, I wished I had the gumption to speak to my boss like that!! ) Brina was full of banter, and the interactions with her friend and flatmate, Paige. I liked that she LOVED to eat. I could go for a bear claw, and a cinnamon coffee!

Magus was grumpy, yes but he also had a heart of gold. at first you only really found this out from the supporting characters, but as the story developed you began to see the sweetie behind the grump. He was extremely prideful. He’d seen the damage his father had done and was determined to make sure he didn’t repeat. Sins of the father and all that!

She’s left a rare impression, though, and there’s no denying the stone-cold fact that I want her. On my team. In my bed. At my desk. On all fours.

OFFICE GRUMP BY NICOLE SMITH, LOCATION 358

Like with most enemy-to-lovers tropes the banter was really strong. The emails between the characters often had me laughing out loud and getting funny looks from my family!

Magus was demanding, and often he spoke in anger before thinking. This led to a lot of conflict between the lovers, but also a lot of heated exchanges. The hurt between the characters was really well-written. At times I had gotten so into the story that a hurricane could have passed through my room and I would have kept reading to find out if they would make up!

I love you, Sabrina. I know I fucked up. living without you has been hell. I won’t ruin this again.

OFFICE GRUMP BY NICOLE SNOW, LOCATION 6309

Overall, a funny intense, banter-filled full length romance novel. The sex was hot, so was the conflict. The added superstitions, romance-author mother, and food-talk made this a delight to read. 5/5 stars

EXCERPT:

Heron chuckles, burning me alive with that lightning in his eyes. “You must have eclectic taste for an English major. Wasn’t that the other degree listed next to fine arts on your resume?”

I scan the menu. “Huh?”

“I mean, to enjoy The Fireman’s Pregnant Tinkerbell.”

I’m busy reading the entrees—and frowning because there are no sandwiches, probably no fries, ugh—so it takes a second for his words to click.

Fireman’s Pregnant Tinkerbell? He must’ve seen my Amazon search.

Oh, great.

I decide to play it cool. After all, my personal shopping has zilch to do with him.

“Why would it have to be eclectic? There’s a literary reference right in the name. Sounds very English major-y to me,” I say.

“English major-y? Is that a word?” He holds his water up, taking a long, sardonic pull off the glass.

God. If only I could clock him in the nose right here.

“It is now,” I say without looking up.

“Interesting. I must’ve missed the part in Barrie’s work where Tinkerbell even met the fireman.” The bastard winks.

Winks.

My face heats at his words and I abhor how good he is at getting me all riled in more ways than one.

Yeah, no, I decide.

He’s not getting the satisfaction.

I scoff—I have to do something with the fire in my veins—and set the menu down so I can meet his eyes. “I’d love to meet a fireman. If I ever have an evening off in time for dinner, I’ll cruise Tinder or Match for one.”

“You’re serious? Firemen are your type?” His face becomes more serious and slightly angrier than it was like two seconds ago.

Oh, God. Thanks, Mom, for putting me in this predicament. You couldn’t just write a book with a more mysterious title?

I take a deep breath and look him square in the eye.

“Why does that shock you, Mr. Heron? Are you fireman-phobic? They’re heroic, hardworking, protective, and risk their butts all day to save lives,” I say, registering his grump-face growly mood with some satisfaction. I can’t resist adding a dollop of icing to the cake. “Plus, they’ve got big hoses. I know those are things preppy business guys probably wouldn’t know about, right?”

His face is, for once, completely blank.

I’ve caught him off guard.

Ha. I like being the one on top, so I continue while I’m on a roll.

“Especially the big hose part. I mean, you wouldn’t even know what to do with equipment like that. It’s not your fault. There’s no need for a long, thick hose in boardrooms.” I smirk at him and flip through my textbook of a menu again.

A second later, I’m actually a little mortified. My face heats, no doubt giving away the fact that I’m not as confident as my words.

What’s gotten into me?

Criminal Love: My Work-in-Progress

Synopsis:

Grace just wanted to go to the gym, get home and share a takeaway with her cat, Stan. She didn’t expect to get kidnapped by her brother’s cellmate, and expected to find a suitcase full of stolen money. She also didn’t expect to fall for the kidnapper or that he was already in love with her.

Its unedited and raw, but this is a preview from Chapter 1. I am quite proud of this novel, but more importantly, I know that I would read it if I saw it on Amazon.

I looked around the room, my gaze stopping on one of the inmates. He was a large man, dwarfing the table he sat at and the man he was sitting with. Edges of his tattoos peeked out from under his t-shirt. His dark hair was cropped short buzz like, his tanned skin was scarred which looked like he’d taken plenty of beatings. He eyes were dark brown almost black and they were focused angrily on something. His mouth tightened into a fierce, tight line, his jaw moving as he ground his teeth. I followed his line of vision which led… to Jason.

Making friends again, I see Jason. I rolled my eyes and looked back at the man to find his eyes were now on her. His eyes had softened slightly, one side of his mouth had turned upwards, grinning at her. He winked at me, I could feel the heat crawl up my face, along with a smile. His mouth widened into a shit-eating grin. The effect made him look care-free and boy like. I felt an electric current flow through and hit straight for my clit, my pussy clenching, I squirmed in my seat, making the hunky man grin even wider.

Rainbow Book Shelves

Evening Pumpkins,

If you are a fan of Bookstagram ( Book centric Instagram Accounts and posts) then you may see that many users ‘Rainbow’ their book shelves.

Basically, arranging your shelves by colour. I’ve looked at the pictures of many accounts in awe and at many times whispered ‘one day’

One day was Saturday 17th October 2020.

My mum was sick in the next room, my dad asleep, and the dog was looking at me like I was mad from my bed.

First thing first, I had to google the rainbow. I know these seemed weird, but where did colours such as pink, brown and Black go? I finally decided on an order.

  • Red
  • Pink
  • Yellow
  • Orange
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Violet
  • Brown
  • Black
  • White

This is how it turned out..

I hate it. It’s not stunning enough to be ok with not being able to find a book that I need. Maybe its because I don’t have an even number of each book and therefore doesn’t look as symmetrical. I don’t know.

I am glad that I finally got around to doing this, but I will be changing it as the earliest convenience. What’s you experience of ‘Rainbow Shelves’?

Tips for the Best Read-Cation: Lockdown Style

Hello Pumpkins

In case you don’t know what a Readcation is, let me please explain.

3+ days of uninterrupted reading.

So instead of visiting wild exotic places filled with Face Masks and Anti bac gel, you can visit Fantasy lands from the comfort of your own home, wearing no mask, and possibly no bra..

Six Months into this virus and according to the news the riots may start soon, Christmas with Family has been cancelled, basic operations are being cancelled again and any hope for a vaccine is next year…

It’s all bad news these days. Which is why for my Week off Work I am having a ReadCation. 9 days of switching off from the news, and flying into far away lands where ‘social distancing’ doesn’t frequent every supermarket shop window.

This week is the last Holiday before the end of the year. My Reading Goals have plummeted and I have been in such a slump. I have hated working from home. This week will help me to recapture my love for reading and all things literary.

10 Tips for a great ReadCation

  1. Let your family know! This are weird and unusual times. Working from Home and staying indoors as much as possible can cause strain amoungst family members.
  2. Snacks! Get as much from the Supermarket as possible. I’ve gone for Fruit, Mints & Crisps for my food, but I have a craving for Jelly Beans.
  3. Find some easy to cook meals, and plan them in advance.
  4. Get off of the Phone! – Unless its Goodreads, Spotify or the Bookly App, get off the Phone. Stay away from the News!
  5. Don’t just read. Say What!! Yeah, so reading for hours straight, can make your eyes feel tired. Compliment this with rearranging your bookshelves, Cooking a great meal, making a hot beverage of your choice, or Write a Review. Maybe take a visit to the library or a bookstore.
  6. Drink Plenty of Water. That’s just sensible.
  7. Dress up/Dress Down – Where a Tux, Ball Gown, heck wear nothing! It doesn’t matter as long as your are happy.
  8. Have a TBR pile – Visit the Library, or buy new books or just plan what Books you would like to read. Having them to hand really helps to make sure you can read as much as you can.
  9. Take a Bath – Self-care is important and us FanGirls know that there can be a lot of emotions in a book. Often, if a book is good enough you go along the journey with the character. This can be draining. Take a moment at the beginning or end of the day to just relax and brush away those feeels…
  10. Have a Goal- In hours how much time do you want to spend reading. My goal is 50 Hours. Its attainable, and reasonably for 9 days of reading. Make sure you can smash the goal. Setting one too high will leave you feeling stressed aim for something you know can challenge you, but at the same time is reasonably to complete. You need to smash this goal. The Goal is to feel good about it and most importantly have fun!!

Well there you have it. My ReadCation starts now. I plan to read the Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard, and then Amazon will be delivery the rest towards the end of this week.

Enjoy, and let me know in the comments if you have enjoyed a Readcation.

I like big books and I cannot lie…

Hi Pumpkins,

Welcome to my blog. Before I give my mission statement for this blog, it may be helpful to know a little about me…

For about 25 years I have loved to read. When I was little my mum would always take me to my local library in Southend every Saturday. I would spend hours sitting on bean bags reading whatever fairy tale or history book I could find.

Fast forward to my teens and Vampire Diaries (the Books by L J Smith) was just starting (yes I am that Old) and I was hooked on the sinister fantasy of the fanged creatures of the night.

When I was a kid I dreamed of writing my own novel, but then the perils of life got in the way, and I wrote a few chapters, but never finished a novel. I convinced myself I wasn’t smart enough. I decided I needed to get a degree in creative writing. I joined Open University.

Truth is, I am smart enough to write a novel, I just become so worried that I might fail, that I procrastinated and didn’t get myself organised. somewhere along the lines I enjoyed my course so much that I have continued with it to further my career.

So if I want to be a writer, what should I do?

Write

Books are my life. Fiction or non-fiction, the overwhelming feeling of entering a new world in my head is addicting.

My purpose for this blog is to provide honest book reviews, tips on distance learning studying, literary product reviews, book news, and novel writing techniques.

I hope this goes well and my goals are set.
